The People Who Reply Like Espresso
Some people answer like espresso.
Quick.
Strong.
Immediate.
You ask a question.
A reply arrives before you’ve even put your phone down.
Others are different.
Not because they care less.
Not because they are ignoring you.
They simply move through thoughts differently.
A question enters.
It sits.
It brews.
It wanders through memories, feelings, possibilities, and unfinished thoughts before eventually returning as an answer.
Sometimes minutes later.
Sometimes hours later.
Sometimes after everyone else has already moved on.
For a long time, I thought speed meant certainty.
That quick answers meant confidence.
That delayed answers meant hesitation.
Life has slowly taught me otherwise.
Some people answer quickly because they think quickly.
Some people answer slowly because they think deeply.
Neither is wrong.
The challenge begins when espresso people meet slow cookers.
One wonders why the answer is taking so long.
The other wonders why everything must be decided so quickly.
Perhaps understanding begins when we realise that not everyone processes life at the same temperature.
Some people answer like espresso.
Some people need time until meaning begins to simmer.
